Acupuncture
Our founder Richard Stringer has further training in acupuncture, and this is a service we offer to all horses under our care.
In horses, acupuncture is commonly used for the relief of musculo-skeletal pain, by placing needles through the skin into specific pressure points.
It can be useful for treating:
Muscle soreness, particularly of the neck, shoulders, back and hindquarters
Arthritis
Sacroiliac pain
Horses with other issues or symptoms may benefit from acupuncture – please speak to your vet to find out more.
Treatment
An initial acupuncture treatment session takes approximately one hour. The horse is examined and palpated to identify areas of tightness or discomfort.
Up to 12 needles are placed at appropriate points. Sedation is not required and most horses tolerate needle placement well and become very relaxed throughout the treatment session.
Re-assessment and follow up treatments are generally held weekly for four sessions.
